In modern product development processes, the optimization and validation of CAD data are essential steps and important processes. By investing in these two processes, companies can exploit the full potential of CAD technology.
Optimizing CAD data
Optimizing CAD dataThe optimization of CAD data aims to improve the quality and efficiency of data for a seamless design and production process. This step helps to remove unnecessary elements and simplify complex CAD models. The file size is reduced, making CAD data easier to manage and share.
Validate CAD data
The validation of CAD data is the process of checking accuracy. We check the geometric accuracy of CAD models and ensure that all model components fit together and function seamlessly. This step helps to identify and correct errors at an early stage before they lead to costly problems in the production phase.
Tools
For the optimization and validation of CAD data, several specialized software tools and solutions are available to facilitate these critical processes:
- Checkmate from Siemens is a comprehensive quality validation tool that ensures the accuracy and reliability of CAD data.
- Quality Manager from DOCUFY complements the CAD solutions from Siemens with a comprehensive quality assurance and documentation tool.
- Useful testing and cleaning tools from NX are the commands:
- “Simple Interference” and “Assembly Clearance” (NX collision analysis browser) to check assemblies.
- The “Examine Geometry” command checks the CAD data for consistency and the “Part Cleanup” command cleans up the part file, e.g. for surplus and unused parameters/expressions.
- The “Object specific” command is used to check whether dimensions have been overwritten.
- Postprocessor log files can be checked using Notepad ++.
DRWE successfully uses the Data Quality Manager (DQM) for the optimization and validation of CAD data. This decision is based on the outstanding features of DQM, including immediate readiness for use, seamless integration into Siemens NX, the use of best practice checks and simple administration.
