To build and create something out of passion for the cause. That was the driving force behind Dr. Jens Wallner. Based on his ideas, he created and shaped the company that still bears his name today.
The enthusiastic motorcyclist grew up in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and started his career in Magdeburg, where he studied mechanical engineering and later completed his doctorate in this field. In December 1999, Dr. Wallner Engineering GmbH was born. Jens Wallner died in 2003 as the result of a car accident.
Many of his companions remember Jens Wallner fondly and are grateful to have gone part of their journey with him. Two detailed reviews can be read here:
Axel VONDERMÜHL from Freudenberg Sealing Technologies:
"I probably met Jens for the first time in 1994. At that time, I had just finished my studies and he was still working as a consultant for UGS, promoting the then still relatively new product Unigraphics. At the time, we were faced with the challenge of introducing a new CAD system for Freudenberg Dichtungs- und Schwingungstechnik, as it was clear that our existing system would not survive the turn of the millennium. Jens was the one who finally convinced us that Unigraphics was the right CAD system for us. Thanks to his expertise and speed in implementing system adaptations, he was able to demonstrate things in Unigraphics during the benchmarks that were only adopted as standard by UGS years later. That's why we opted for Unigraphics back then, which is still our motivation today, also together with you as a partner.I personally got to know Jens as extremely competent, pragmatic and positively unconventional. It was often the case that he would drop by for a quick visit between two customer visits on his motorcycle - I think it was a BMW GS 1100 - to quickly install a patch or a configuration adjustment. There was no Internet yet and at that time we were still sitting behind thick Unix workstations and huge CRT monitors. He was "on fire" for the further development of Unigraphics and the collaboration was always friendly/partnership-based without neglecting the professional/business part. In addition, I got to know him as a particularly interesting person with a very exciting CV, which also enriched our conversations in addition to our professional work. I am extremely happy that I was able to get to know him and to have gone part of the way with him at the beginning of my professional life."
Claus PENSOLD also had fond memories of Jens Wallner:
"In 1991, the automotive division of Robert Bosch GmbH opted for Unigraphics as its 3D CAD system. At that time it was still without any parametrics and primarily for customer data exchange. It was soon increasingly recognized as a design tool with exuberant possibilities. However, it took a lot of persuasion in the development and approval departments to change the prevailing mindset and thus move away from 2D CAD to an interactive 3D CAD, which is where Dr. Jens Wallner, then a new consultant at UGS for Robert Bosch GmbH, first came into contact with me. A wonderful, extremely trusting collaboration soon developed, based on the high esteem in which Jens Wallner was held and his great empathy. He demonstrated excellent knowledge of the system and his foresight as to what could be achieved with the 3D CAD models if it were recognized and desired. For example, I am familiar with key terms such as CAD-CAM coupling, CAE in various fields of application, but also marketing through photorealistic representations and animations. I will never forget when he initially created and provided us with a photorealistic animation of a high-pressure pump, which we were able to present convincingly to customers both internally and externally. I will also never forget his fascinating calmness, objectivity and great empathy in various meetings to convince designers and managers that the switch from 2D CAD to 3D CAD was the right decision. To this day, I am extremely grateful to him for moving internal discussions in the right direction at crucial points as an external person! I learned from him, It was precisely these qualities that gave me the power of persuasion. Jens Wallner opened doors for me that made it easier for me to walk through them, and the founding of his company Dr. Wallner Engineering GmbH in 1999 came at exactly the right time for us to take part in a large number of training courses in his training rooms in Schönaich, which were optimally tailored to our needs thanks to his knowledge from the consulting phase at Bosch. We discussed and planned a number of ways in which the potential could be exploited to an even greater extent in the division for which I was responsible. Sometimes Jens Wallner was the visionary, sometimes I was. Together, we quickly agreed on the next steps with the best chance of realization, and the news of his fatal accident was and still is a turning point for me. That is why I am so grateful for the time in which we were able to walk the path together and understand each other so wonderfully, despite or perhaps because we grew up diametrically opposed in different federal states."
We at DRWE are grateful and proud to continue the life's work of Dr. Jens Wallner.
We want to successfully advance his company, carry on his values and keep his memory alive. We look forward to the next 20 years and look forward to the technical developments and challenges ahead. Together with our customers, we can still achieve great things and achieve the extraordinary.
Let's tackle it together!
