Reverse Engineering Part 1

NX Tip & Trick
January 24, 2024

In this part 1 of the tip and trick on reverse engineering, we will show you the process of transferring existing objects into a digital 3D model in NX.

For some years now, Siemens NX has offered the option of displaying and editing so-called convergent models in addition to analytical models. These convergent models, which can be in the form of points and triangular surfaces, originate from scanned data, measuring machines or as the results of simulations, for example. Siemens is continuously expanding the processing options for this type of model. What is particularly interesting is that convergent models can be seamlessly combined with analytical models.

The flow of this process often begins with a physical part or product being scanned, either through the use of 3D scanners or other imaging technologies. After scanning, this data is imported into Siemens NX. Here, the data is optimized and converted into a parametric 3D model. As part of this process, engineers can add additional details, correct errors and adapt the model to specific requirements. The seamless integration of convergent models and the ability to incorporate them into the entire modelling and design process opens up new dimensions for the processing of digitized real geometries in Siemens NX.
